Opening day

The day started with me setting up our art book sample and running out to the printing shop to print out some QR codes of our pre-sale link. After some basic setting up and greetings, some of the public audience and my friends gradually showed up. Throughout the day, I did some basic maintenance and communication, along with some networking and introducing my friend to my boss.

It was quite an easy and chilled day compared to the hard work before. However, I do find it a bit awkward to network or make small talk with the job title of artist assistant. I find it hard sometimes to balance what I can speak of and what I shouldn’t, even with a very down-to-earth boss. For example, when the gallery owner asks me for a short description of what one of my artist’s work is about so he can do a brief introduction. Even though, I know what to say in that situation, I still don’t want to take that much responsibility especially since the concept of an artwork heavily depends on the artist.

I formally met the other artist who is co-exhibiting and some other artists residents of the gallery, where we also had a dinner and a drink together. I’m flying back to London the very next day.
